Sometimes,
when I’m caught in a downpour
of snow on an October evening,
I wonder why the city
puts yellow bulbs in the street lamps,
so as the flurries soar around tree tips
and home tops, they look
like licks of fire,
raining, burning the city in
cold, cold water.
